Top 10 Comedy Anime

This List was built on its ability to cause its watcher to laugh out loud uncontrollably. Some can be more clever than others and might have better plots and characters, but in the end the only thing that matters in comedy is its ability to entertain. So here is my list of the absolute funniest anime that I could find with number 1 being the most hilarious. I’ll try to keep the blurbs about them short and very simple to keep it brief.

NUMBER 10: My Neighbor Seki- Master of Wasting Time

When this series was streaming it was the best break in between some of the more serious stuff I was watching at the time. I would end every short episode with a big stupid smile on my face because it was so entertaining.
It’s a show from the perspective of a girl who seems to be the only one who notices her desk neighbor messing around during class. Every day in class Seki-kun finds a way to entertain himself, usually in a really complex way for the simple things. You never hear seki really speak as she just kind of observes his games. Her reactions to the things he does never really gets old, and in some cases it seems she finds herself getting more caught up in his games than he is.
The episodes are short and it should take no time at all to go through this series. I recommend it as something to check out in between shows like I did. It will help take the edge of of some of the more heavily emotional shows.

NUMBER 9- When Supernatural Battles Become Common Place

With a title like that you know you can expect something pretty good, and this show really didn’t disappoint. The characters had great chemistry already at the start, but then when superpowers were introduced into it all, it was amazing. Especially the main character who was so chunibyo and he got the most lame power out of all of them. It was hands down the best gag of the whole thing. The girls didn’t care about having superpowers while he was thrilled to pieces to even be able to do something that looked cool.

Watching them all just kind of mess around with their powers in their everyday lives built a lot of situations that just couldn’t exist in any other anime. It also helped that I loved every girl in the series.
Just remembering it makes me want to go watch it again.

NUMBER 8: Haven’t You Heard, I’m Sakamoto

Did you ever watch loony toons as a kid where bugs bunny kept on outsmarting all his enemies and always came out on top. This is pretty much the anime version of that. Sakamoto is an attractive guy loved by all the girls. He is cool, cooler, coolest. He lives his life by his own upbeat style and as people go to unbelievable lengths to tear him down, he always ends up on top. Its impossible not to laugh at the shocked faces of his enemies as he takes their best efforts and not only destroys them but hands it back to them in a gift wrapped bag. A lot of them even go from enemy to admirer in the blink of an eye.

Give this one a shot. You won’t find another one quite like it.

NUMBER 7: Space Dandy

I’m sure I’ll get a lot of anime purists on my case for adding this one, but its my site and I do what I want ^_^
Space dandy picks up where Cowboy Beebop left off, but more in the way of wacky and silly than dark and edgy. I told people it was like if Cowboy Beebop had a baby with bobobo-bo bo-bobo. Its just the perfect amount of off the walls random, while also having an interesting adventure that’s fun to watch.

Just the story of three lovable idiots in space and their quest to make money as they hang out at their favorite bar called “Boobies”. Whats not to love?

NUMBER 6: Love, Chunibyo, and other Delusions

Chunibyo is a great series that has a lot of different things going on, but at its root its comedy is really what holds it all together so well. Rikka Takanashi is a girl that lives in her own pretend world of super powers and fantasy environments, the only problem is she acts out her delusions in the real world. On top of which her actions remind the main character of his own embarrassing past of delusions. Together they create the perfect dynamic with their over the top reactions to everything.

The first time I watched it I was addicted to this show and it never fails to make me laugh whenever she tries to act cool and fails miserably. Every single character in it is fun to watch and keeps me waiting for what they are going to do next.

NUMBER 5: Tanaka-kun is Always Listless

There are very few anime I’ve been able to get my snob sister to watch, but this was one of them. Its so different because the humor is so offbeat and slow paced but that fits perfectly with exactly what it is. Its about Tanaka who’s only goal in life is to live a lazy and sleepy existance. His best friend even carries him around as he sleeps to get to the next class.  Yet the whole thing revolves around high energy people interrupting tanaka’s listless life. They all want to befriend him and involve him in their lives, but tanaka just wants to sleep so he often goes to a lot of effort to be lazy.

When I first started watching it, I wondered to myself how they could make an entire season based only off of this idea, but it kept the laughs coming and I loved every episode of it.

NUMBER 4: Gintama

This was a hard pick for me to place into this top 10 list because I actually don’t like Ginatama. I’ve given it a couple of tries and I just can’t get into it at all. That doesn’t mean that I don’t understand its place in comedy anime though. I’ve talked to a few people who have claimed its the funniest anime they can think of. So out of respect I’ve placed it in the number 4 spot on this list. Its a legendary comedy with a long running episode list. Hard to hate on it even if your not a fan.

NUMBER 3: Konosuba

Although I don’t like the direction that the second season has gone into, the first season of Konosuba was one of the funniest things I had seen in a long time. With so many fantasy world gaming anime coming out, it was only a matter of time before something came out that would make fun of it a bit. So naturally when Kazuma is trying to start his new fantasy journey in Ernest, everything just goes wrong for him in the best ways possible. I nearly died of laughter when he realized that him and aqua were just doing manual labor and drinking every night instead of really starting out as an adventurer. As Kazuma said “I just realized that adventurers are pretty much glorified homeless people.”

If you haven’t seen this show, get out from under your rock and get ready to laugh. Konosuba is a show that shouldn’t be missed….. well….. the first season anyway.

NUMBER 2: Working!!

It takes Working!! a couple of episodes to get moving but once all the characters are set up and fully introduced, It is a non stop ride. I remember watching this with headphones on and having people stare at me as I literally LOL’d suddenly without warning. The jokes in Working!! come from so many different sources and situations that even if you don’t find one of the running jokes to be funny, you still have so many to choose from. Best of all is that it has plenty of episodes for you to enjoy all the extremely rich characters in and it has a Movie to tie it all up neatly at the end.

There really is no way to go about describing Working!! without writing an entire article on it alone. Its work place shenanigans with a ton of lovable, cute, and eccentric characters. Its an instant favorite and if your anything like me it will keep you laughing hard and loud.

NUMBER 1: My Mental Choices are Ruining my Teenage Highschool Romantic Comedy

Finally at number one is Noucome (for short). This is honestly a comedy that works so well that no matter how many times I watch it, it still makes me laugh just as hard as when I’d first seen it. Its not like the characters were incredibly interesting and the jokes weren’t clever or filled with references. It just had a brilliant premise that carried the whole show and its own brand of perverted weird humor. Some god(s) gives the MC a set of choices in his head that he must do otherwise he will be subjected to searing pain if he doesn’t. The choices he is given are usually the worst kinds of things that causes massive embarrassment. This forces the main character into some of the most bizarre situations that you will see in any show.

Whenever anyone asks me what the funniest anime I’ve ever seen was. Its this one for sure.

So that wraps up the top ten. Feel free to leave a comment if you think there is a funnier anime I might have missed, or if you want to ask anything about any of the shows.
